Silva Scores Twice as Spartans Men’s Soccer Team Beats Earlham
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Sophomore midfielder Rene Silva (Hudson, OH/Western Reserve Academy) scored a pair of goals as the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team improved to 2-0 for the young season with a 3-1 victory versus visiting Earlham College (IN) on Saturday, September 4 at Case Field.
Case takes its unbeaten record on the road next week with a non-conference match at Muskingum University on Tuesday, September 7 at 5:00 p.m. in New Concord. With its loss, Earlham drops to 0-2 overall.
The Spartans got on the board in the 21st minute when Silva scored following a cross from junior midfielder Mark Ilhan (Westlake, OH/Westlake). Earlham answered less than a minute later with an unassisted goal by Bannet Asingura and the game went into the half tied.
Case regained the lead in the 57th minute when Silva scored his second goal of the contest with an assist from junior forward Vinny Bell (Parma Heights, OH/Valley Forge). Bell then added the insurance with his second score of the year off of passes from senior Aaron Lucas (Monroeville, PA/Gateway) and sophomore Kostis Theohardies (Brookline, MA/Brookline) in the 68th minute.
In goal, junior Ben Yabrow (Marietta, GA/George Walton Comprehensive) needed only one save in improving to 2-0 for the year. Earlham's Jonah Kreniske totaled seven saves for the Quakers.
